After they sinned, that same voice filled them with fear. Nothing about God had changed. His character was still holy, loving, and good. What changed was the human heart.

Sin did not give them freedom like Satan promised. Instead it brought fear, guilt, and inner trouble. This is what happens in every human heart after sin. We may not use words like “depravity” or “condemnation,” but we feel the effects. We feel anxiety that we cannot explain. We feel restless, empty, and afraid of facing God.

The Bible teaches that this fear is not just because life is hard. It is because sin has cut us off or severed us from the God of peace. Our conscience tells us something is wrong. So instead of running to God, we pull away from Him.

The good news is that God did not leave Adam and Eve in that fearful place. He came to them. He is still doing that today through Jesus Christ. Where sin causes fear, Jesus brings peace with God.

Prayer:
Lord, I confess that my sin has removed peace from my heart. Many times I have felt fear and inner trouble when I should have been resting in You. Thank You for sending Jesus for my ruined heart. Please forgive my sins, calm my fears, and restore peace with You in my soul. Teach me to run to Your voice instead of hiding from it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

John 12:16
These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

Thought:
Even the disciples did not understand everything at first. They saw the feast, the palm branches, the donkey, and the crowds, but they did not fully see what it all meant. Only after Jesus died, rose again, and was glorified did they remember the Scriptures and understand how it all pointed to Him.

This tells us that true understanding comes when the Word of God and the Person of Christ come together in our hearts. Some people in the story knew the Word but missed the Lord. Others were excited about the Lord but did not know the Word well. The disciples were learning to bring both together.

We need both. The Word shows us who Jesus truly is, not who we imagine Him to be. The Holy Spirit uses Scripture to open our eyes to the glory of Christ. Then, as we see Him more clearly, our hearts respond with trust, worship, and obedience.

The question today is personal. Who do you see when you look at Jesus? A teacher, a miracle worker, a helper, or the Lamb of God who takes away your sin and the King who deserves your whole life?

If you have never trusted Christ, this is the day to turn from your sin and believe that He died and rose again for you. If you are already a believer, this is the time to realign your heart, to see Him again as He truly is, and to follow Him with fresh obedience and love.

Do not just see the moment and miss the Person. The feast, the branches, the donkey, the crowds, and even your own life circumstances are meant to point you to Him. See Him, trust Him, and respond to Him. Do not just see the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem years ago, but allow Him the triumphal entrance into your heart and life.

Sometimes, we do not know what or how to pray. These prayers are meant to help you, and not be a formula. Maybe you would like to pray today as an unbeliever or a believer, these are meant to help you.

Prayer for unbelievers:
God, I understand that I have sinned and gone my own way. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that He rose again. I turn from my sin and place my faith in Jesus alone to save me. Forgive me, cleanse me, and make me new. I give You my life and receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name, amen.

Prayer for believers:
Lord Jesus, thank You for opening my eyes to who You are. I confess that I often lose focus and let other things become more important than You. Help me to stay close to Your Word and close to You. Grow my understanding and deepen my love. Help me not just to know about You, but to walk with You daily in obedience and faith. Keep my eyes on You, the true King and Savior. They could quote the Law and the Prophets. They knew the promises about a coming Messiah. Yet when Jesus stood right in front of them, they wanted to stop Him, not worship Him.

This shows a serious warning. It is possible to know the Bible in your mind and still miss Jesus in your heart. You can know verses, doctrines, and stories, yet never bow before the One those verses point to.

The Pharisees used Scripture as something they controlled and used to gain power and status. Instead of letting the Word humble them and lead them to trust Christ, they used it to protect their position. Their problem was not lack of information. Their problem was lack of surrender.

We can fall into the same trap. We might enjoy learning, debating, and talking about theology, but not actually loving, trusting, and obeying Jesus. Scripture is given to us so we can know Him, not just so we can win arguments or feel spiritual.

Real faith is not only correct knowledge. It is a heart that bows to the Lord that the Bible reveals. The goal of reading the Word is a loving relationship with the living Christ. The Word must move from our minds to our hearts and then make its way out through our lives.
Ask yourself: Does my knowledge of the Bible lead me to deeper repentance, deeper love, and deeper obedience to Jesus? Or have I become content with information and missed transformation?

Prayer:
Father, keep me from being like the Pharisees who knew the Scriptures but rejected the Savior. Thank You for giving me Your Word. Help me not only to understand it with my mind, but to submit to it with my heart. Use the Bible to draw me closer to You, to change me, and to make me more like Your Son, Jesus. I surrender my pride and my desire to be right, and I ask You to be Lord over my life. In Jesus name, amen.

He chose a donkey, just as the prophet Zechariah had said about 500 years earlier. By riding that donkey, Jesus was clearly saying, “I am the promised King, the Messiah.”

This shows us two big truths.

First, God is faithful to His Word. Zechariah 9:9 promised a humble King on a donkey. Centuries passed, but God did not forget. In Jesus, that promise came true exactly how God had told it. When we see that, we learn that God never leaves a single promise unfinished. Every word about Christ’s first coming was fulfilled. When we see that His word can be trusted about how He would come to the earth, then we can trust that every word about His return and our final salvation will also be fulfilled.

Second, Jesus is a gentle and humble King. World conquerors ride proud and powerful animals and bring war. Jesus rides a lowly animal and brings peace with God through His blood. He does not come to crush sinners who come to Him. He comes to carry their sins to the cross and give them peace with God.

The donkey reminds us that God keeps His promises and that His Son is a different kind of King. He is mighty enough to save, but humble enough to suffer. He came not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.

When your faith feels weak, remember the donkey. God does not forget what He has spoken. He did not forget Zechariah. He will not forget you if you belong to Christ.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for coming as the humble King on a donkey, just as God promised. Thank You that every prophecy about You shows that the Father always keeps His Word. Help me to trust that You are both powerful and gentle, both King and Savior. When I doubt, remind me of Your faithfulness and that You will finish what You have started in me. In Jesus name, amen.

They were waving palm branches, which is a national symbol that said, “Give us victory now.”

Their expectation was small compared to what Jesus came to do. They wanted freedom from Rome but Jesus came to bring freedom from sin, death, and the wrath of God. They wanted a change in government. Jesus came to change hearts.

This teaches us something important about our own hearts. We can come to Jesus wanting Him mainly to fix our problems, heal our hurts, restore our finances, or improve our circumstances. He does care about our needs, but His main mission is deeper. He came to save us from our guilt, cleanse us from our sin, and bring us back to God.

If we only expect Jesus to give us a better life on earth, we will miss the greater gift of eternal life with Him. The crowd wanted a crown without a cross. But Jesus knew the only way to truly save was to go to the cross first!

Ask yourself: What do I mainly want Jesus to do for me? Change my situation, or change my heart? He is a Savior, not just a helper. He did not come first to sit on a throne in Jerusalem. He came first to hang on a cross for the world.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, sometimes I want You to only fix my problems and make my life easier. Forgive me for wanting a small kind of salvation. Help me to see that my greatest need is to be forgiven and made right with God. That feast was an appointment set by God. On this day, Jesus walks into that appointment as the true Passover Lamb.

In Exodus, each family chose a lamb, cared for it, and then killed it so that its blood would cover them from judgment. That lamb pointed to Jesus. He is God’s Lamb, chosen before the world began, coming at the exact time God planned.

This shows us something very important about God. He does not guess about the future. He does not react to what people do. He plans, promises, and then fulfills His Word. Just as Passover was not an accident, the cross was not an accident. Your salvation is not an accident either.

When you see Jesus entering Jerusalem at Passover, you are seeing God keep His prophetic promise to save sinners. Prophecy is not like a weather forecast that might change. It is God’s certain plan being carried out. Numbers 23:19 says God cannot lie. If He says He will save, then He will save completely through His Son.

Today, remember: your life is not random. The same God who set that feast and sent His Son at the right moment knows you, sees you, and invites you to trust His plan in Christ.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that Your coming to Jerusalem was not an accident, but a loving plan from God. Thank You for being the true Passover Lamb who came to die for my sins. Help me to trust that Your plans are sure and that Your promises never fail. I give You my fears about the future and rest in Your perfect timing. In Jesus name, amen.

Not that they were successful. Not that they were popular. But that in the middle of a dark world, they walked with God and pleased Him.

Pleasing God does not mean living a perfect life. Only Jesus lived a perfect life. But it does mean living a life of faith that trusts, obeys, and depends on God. Faith pleases God because it gives Him the honor He deserves. Faith says, “God, You are true. Your word is right. Your promises are sure. I will build my life on You.”

Enoch’s world was very sinful. Violence, corruption, and rebellion filled the earth. In many ways, our world today is similar. There is confusion about truth. There is open sin and pride. There is rejection of God’s ways. Yet God can still raise up men and women like Enoch who walk with Him in the middle of darkness.

The question is not only “How bad is the world?” The question is “What is my testimony in this world?” Am I walking with God or drifting with the culture? Am I pleasing God or just trying to fit in? Am I bold for truth or silent out of fear?

You may not be known by the world. Your name may never be remembered in history books. Faith is also for every step after that. The Christian life is a journey of following God in faith. Many times God does not show us the whole path. He shows us only the next step. In those moments, faith must lead and feelings must follow.

The Bible gives us many examples of following faith. Abraham obeyed God and went out, not knowing where he was going. Moses left the treasures of Egypt and chose to suffer with the people of God. The disciples left their work and their old lives to follow Jesus.
They did not understand everything. They did not see every detail. But they trusted the One who called them. That is what following faith does. It believes that God is wise, good, and faithful even when the way seems unclear.

Faith that follows will always lead to obedience. It is not enough to say “I trust God” while ignoring what He says. Real faith shows itself in real obedience. It says “Yes, Lord” with both the heart and the life. When we trust God’s character, we can obey God’s commands, even when they are costly.

Prayer
Father, in Jesus name, help me to have a faith that follows You even when I do not see the whole picture. When I am unsure or afraid, remind me that You are wise, loving, and in control. Give me courage to obey Your word, to surrender my own plans, and to trust that Your way is best. Let my faith be seen in my obedience and my daily choices. In Jesus name, Amen.

The world around him was growing more corrupt, more violent, and more ungodly. Yet in the middle of all this sin, Enoch had a different story. The Bible says he walked with God and that his life pleased God.

Walking with God means more than believing in Him from a distance. It is living near to Him. It is talking with Him in prayer, listening to Him in His word, and obeying Him in daily life. It is choosing God’s way when the world goes another way.

Enoch shows us that faith is not just how we start with God. Faith is how we continue with God day after day. True faith follows. It does not only say “I believe” with the mouth. It shows “I believe” with the life. Faith leads our feet, shapes our choices, and guides our steps.

The darker the world becomes, the brighter a faithful walk with God will shine. Your workplace, school, community, and even family may not honor God. But like Enoch, you can walk with God in the middle of it. Your faith can stand out even when the world turns away from Him.

Prayer
Father, in Jesus name, I thank You for the example of Enoch. Help me to walk with You in my daily life. Teach me to seek You in prayer, to listen to You in Your word, and to obey You even when it is hard. When the world goes its own way, give me faith to stay close to You. May my life be a quiet but clear testimony that I walk with God. In Jesus name, Amen.

It is the very beginning and foundation of it. The Bible says that without faith we cannot please God at all. That means we cannot know Him, walk with Him, or be right with Him apart from faith.

Faith is more than believing that God exists. Even the devils believe that God exists. Biblical faith means we trust who God is and what He has said. We take Him at His word. We depend on His character. We rely on His promises through the Spirit. We rest in His Son.

The Bible teaches that we are not saved by our own goodness or our own efforts. Our works cannot make us righteous. Our church habits cannot make us righteous. Our feelings cannot make us righteous. Only God can make a sinner righteous and He does this through faith in Jesus Christ.

Faith is like an empty hand reaching out to receive a gift. The hand does not earn the gift. It simply receives it. In the same way, faith does not earn salvation. Faith receives salvation from Christ. God is pleased when we stop trusting in ourselves and start trusting fully in His Son.

Prayer
Father, in Jesus name, I confess that I cannot please You by my own works or goodness. I am a sinner who needs Your mercy. Thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins and rise again. Help me to put my full faith in Christ alone for my salvation. He lived a sinless life. He went to the cross. He carried our sins. He satisfied the demands of God’s holy law. He rose again in victory. He did not fail in a single step of the Father’s plan. Because of His perfect obedience, sinners can be completely forgiven and made right with God.

If you have never trusted Christ, this is the Good News. You cannot save yourself. You cannot clean your own heart. But Jesus has already provided everything for you. If you turn from your sin and put your faith in Him alone, He will save you fully and forever.

If you are already a believer, this same truth gives us daily hope. That is hard for us. We know Jesus can heal. We know He can deliver. Yet there are times when healing does not come quickly, when the answer seems delayed, and when the burden or struggle remains with us.

The truth we must hold is this. A delayed miracle does not mean an absent Savior. When God does not remove the pain right away, it does not mean He has stopped loving us. Sometimes His answer is immediate healing. Sometimes His answer is daily strength to walk through the trial. Sometimes He delivers us from the fire. Sometimes He walks with us in the fire.

Psalm 46:1 reminds us that God is “a very present help in trouble.” Notice it does not say He is only a help when trouble is happening, or when it's gone. It says He is present in the trouble. The Christ who heals is also the Christ who holds. The Christ who raises the dead is also the Christ who sits with us in our waiting and our weakness.

If your prayer has not yet been answered the way you hoped, do not think that God has turned away. People boast, “I did it my way. I do not answer to anyone.” But Jesus, the eternal Son of God, shows us something very different. He is fully God, equal with the Father. Yet in His earthly life and ministry, He chose complete submission to the Father’s will.

He did not come with His own agenda. He did not try to change or overrule the Father’s plan. He came to carry out the Father’s will perfectly. His submission does not mean He is less than the Father. It means He is in perfect harmony with the Father.

In mythology, false gods gain power by fighting and overthrowing one another. In the same way, human rulers often rise by stepping on others. But the Son of God does not overthrow the Father. He reveals the Father. His rule comes from eternal love, not from fear or force.

This verse tells us that if we do not keep or live according to the teachings about Christ, we do not have God at all. But those who hear and trust Him as Lord will stay with the truth about Jesus, and those believers have both the Father and the Son. To know Christ is to know God. To follow Christ is to walk with the Father.

True greatness for us is not doing life alone and ignoring God. True greatness is humble trust and obedience. He is one with the Father. When He says He can do nothing of Himself, He is not saying He is weak. He is saying He is so perfectly united with the Father that He will never act apart from Him.

This means that when we look at Jesus, we are seeing exactly what God the Father is like. When Jesus speaks, God is speaking. When Jesus shows mercy, God is showing mercy. When Jesus bends down to help the broken, that is the heart of the Father in action.

Many people think of power and authority as opponents fighting for the top position. They think real greatness means acting independent and never answering to anyone. But Jesus shows us that the highest power is found in perfect unity with the Father. His obedience does not make Him less. It shows His perfect connection with God.

So, if you ever wonder what God feels about you, look at Jesus in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. His feelings, background, and confidence are not enough. He must show something that verifies who he is.

Jesus does something similar in John 8. The religious leaders claim to be children of Abraham and children of God. But Jesus does not accept their claim just because they say it. He points to proof: their response to the Word of God. He says, in effect, “Your refusal to hear and receive My words shows that you are not of God.”

This is a heavy truth, but it is also very loving. Jesus is not trying to insult them. He is exposing their real condition so they might see their need and be saved. Identity before God is not based on family, church attendance, feelings, moral efforts, or spiritual ministry titles. It is revealed in the heart’s reception of His Word and toward Christ Himself.

For the believer, this is both a test and a comfort. It is a test because we must ask, Do I receive the Word, especially when it confronts me? Does it lead me to repentance and obedience? Or do I only accept the parts that fit my opinions and desires?

It is also a comfort that believers can struggle, resist at first, and even go through seasons of dullness, but deep down, they cannot be at peace while rejecting God’s Word. The Spirit within them draws them back. They find that they cannot abandon the Word. This ongoing hearing and returning is proof that they are truly “of God.”

Today, let this verse call you to an honest self-examination. Do not identify yourself only by what you claim, but by how you respond to the Scriptures. If you see hardness and resistance, run to Christ for mercy and a new heart. If you see a growing desire to hear, trust, and obey, give thanks. That is God’s work in you.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I come to You openly and honestly. I do not want to trust in empty claims about myself. Search my heart by Your Word. Where I have resisted You, forgive me. Where I have excused my sin, correct me. I ask that my life would show that I am truly of God by the way I hear and obey Your voice in Scripture. Keep me from pride and from hardening my heart. Let my identity be found in belonging to You and receiving Your Word. In Jesus name, Amen.

He does not say, “If a man loves Me, he will feel a lot of emotion during worship.” He says, “If a man love me, he will keep my words.” Love for Christ shows itself in loyalty to His teaching. When you love Him, His words matter to you. You want to remember them, honor them, and obey them.

This connects with John 8:47. The one who is “of God” hears God’s words. The one who loves Jesus keeps His words. These are two sides of the same reality. God’s children love God’s Word because they love God Himself.

Notice also the promise. Jesus says that when a person keeps His words, the Father and the Son will come and make their home with that person. This speaks of close fellowship, nearness, and shared life. Obedience does not earn God’s love, but it does help us experience His presence.

On the other hand, the one who does not love Jesus does not keep His sayings. That person may admire Jesus from a distance, agree with some teachings, or use His name, but in the daily choices of life there is no real submission to His Word. Jesus says this reveals a lack of true love for Him and of not being His.

So your relationship to Scripture is not a side issue. It is the issue of your relationship with Christ. If His words are heavy, unwanted, or easy to ignore, it is a warning light. If His words draw you, correct you, comfort you, and shape you, that is evidence that you love Him and belong to Him.

Prayer:
Lord, I want to love You in truth, not just in words. Help me to show my love by keeping Your words. Make Your commands sweet to me, even when they are hard to my flesh. Let my mind and heart be a place where Your Word is welcomed and obeyed. Draw near to me as You promised. Let my life display that I am truly Yours. In Jesus name, Amen.

Some people cannot truly hear God’s Word because they are not “of God.” Their hearts are like a hard stone toward God. This can sound hopeless, but Scripture gives a wonderful promise. God Himself can change the heart.

In Ezekiel, God says He will take away the stony heart and give a heart of flesh. A stony heart is hard, cold, and unresponsive. A heart of flesh is soft, living, and responsive. It can feel. It can receive. It can be moved by God.

God also says He will put His Spirit within us and cause us to walk in His ways. That means true obedience to God does not begin with human strength or self effort. It begins with God giving new spiritual life. When a person is born again, the Spirit opens their ears to hear, opens their eyes to see, and gives them new desires. Then the Word of God is no longer foolish or unbearable. It becomes light and life.

This is why 1 Corinthians 2:14 says the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. Without the Spirit, the Word seems foolish. With the Spirit, the same Word becomes precious, powerful, and beautiful.

So if you feel cold, hard, and unmoved by God’s Word, do not just try harder to feel something. Come to God and ask Him for a new heart. Ask Him to save you. Ask Him to put His Spirit within you. He delights to take dead hearts and make them alive, so that His people can truly hear His voice.

Prayer:
Lord God, I see that without You my heart is hard and blind. I cannot change myself. I ask You today for a new heart. Take away my stony heart and give me a heart of flesh. Put Your Spirit within me. Cause me to love Your Word, to receive it, and to walk in Your ways. Make me truly “of God” by Your grace. In Jesus name, Amen.

Today if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart.

Thought:
The Bible shows that the real problem with hearing God is usually not in the ears or the mind, but in the heart. Israel heard God speaking through Moses and the prophets, but often they hardened their hearts. They wanted their own way. They did not want to be told they were wrong. So the same Word that could have brought life and joy became something they resisted.

Jesus showed this in John 8. The religious leaders heard His words, but they could not “hear” in a spiritual way. They did not want to accept what He said about their sin, their need for freedom, and their true spiritual father. They argued. They were offended. They wanted to kill Him.

This still happens today. The Word of God confronts our pride, our habits, our desires, our secret sins. It convicts us. That means it declares us guilty and in need of change. Our flesh does not like that. So we are tempted to explain it away, twist it, ignore it, or get angry at the messenger.

But a heart that is “of God” does something different. It may hurt at first, but then it bows. It says, “You are right, Lord.” It repents. It turns. It yields. This is not because we are better people. It is because God has begun a work in our hearts to make us soft instead of hard.
Every time you hear the Word, you are doing one of two things. You are either hardening your heart, or you are humbling your heart. That response reveals everything about whether you are “of God” or still living in resistance to Him.

Prayer:
Lord God, I confess that my heart can be stubborn. I do not like to be shown that I am wrong. Please forgive me for the times I have resisted what You clearly said in Your Word. Today, soften my heart. When Your Word convicts me, help me not to harden myself, but to repent and obey. Let my response to Your voice show that I truly belong to You. In Jesus name, Amen.

But Jesus said the real proof of belonging to God is this: a person who is “of God” hears God’s words.

“To be of God” means more than simply being religious or moral. It means you have been born of God. You belong to Him. You are aligned with Him. His nature has changed your heart. When that happens, His Word does something inside you. You do not just hear the sound. You receive it. You recognize that it is true. You want to follow it.

In John 8:47 the verb “heareth” means “is hearing” as a pattern of life. It is not a one time thing. They love learning about Jesus, chatting about spiritual concepts, and soaking up Bible wisdom, but they still don’t fully connect with Him. They see Him as someone to figure out, not someone to trust. They crave information without giving up control. They want to study Christ, but not to follow Him. In this way, Jesus remains just out of reach, watched and studied, but never truly embraced.

But Jesus did not call anyone to a lifelong interview. He calls people into a living relationship. In the upper room, He makes it clear that the world cannot receive the Spirit of truth, not because the truth is unavailable, but because the heart refuses to bow. The world may hear words about Jesus, but without repentance and faith it will not receive Him. When a person will not yield to Christ, they will not welcome the Spirit.

But when someone receives Christ, everything changes. God gives the Holy Spirit to the believer, and the Spirit does more than provide "religious information." He brings spiritual life. He opens the heart to understand Jesus. He makes Him known in a personal and living way, not as a distant God, but as a present Lord who comforts, convicts, guides, and strengthens.

Are you simply curious about Jesus, or are you truly committed to Him? Are you still standing back as an observer, or have you stepped forward into faith, obedience, and love? Curiosity can admire Him. Commitment belongs to Him.

If you do not yet know Christ, then today is the day to move from curiosity to confession. Stop keeping Him at arms length and come to Him openly, admitting your sin and believing that He died and rose again to save you. And if you are already a believer, then today is a day to renew your surrender. Return to obedience. Return to fellowship. Walk again in the obedience of real communion with the Lord.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I do not want to stay on the outside, only asking questions while keeping You at a distance. I surrender my right to “evaluate” You and instead bow to You as Lord. Draw me out of curiosity and into real communion with You. Fill me with the Spirit of truth. Open my eyes to know You, love You, and walk with You in daily obedience. Let my life move from shadow to sunshine in Your presence. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

If you belong to Him, He loves you with a steadfast love that took Him to the cross and secures your salvation. That love is rooted in His finished work, not in your up-and-down emotions or your daily performance. Because of who He is and what He has done, His people are secure and held fast.

Jesus teaches that there can be a difference between being truly loved by Christ and living with a clear, daily fulfillment of that love. His love is constant, but our experience of fellowship can vary. When we sin, neglect the Word, or resist the Spirit’s leading, fellowship becomes hindered. We don’t lose Christ, but we can sometimes forget how close He is and how sweet it is to be in communion with Him.

As you walk in repentance, surrender, and obedience, Jesus becomes more real to you. His presence grows clearer through the Word, His comfort becomes sweeter in the trials of life, and His guidance becomes more understandable as your heart becomes more tuned in to Him. He is faithful to keep His promise, “I will manifest myself to him.” This is not a promise of performance, but of communion. A deeper understanding of Jesus grows through our obedience.

Where have you allowed clouds to gather in your soul? Is it a hidden sin that you keep excusing? Is it a coldness that has settled in? Is it neglect of prayer and Scripture? Bring those things into the light of His truth. Confess them openly and honestly. Ask the Spirit to renew your heart. Then walk today in obedience.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that Your saving love for me is constant. I confess any sin, hardness, or neglect that has clouded my sense of Your presence. I do not want to live at a distance from the joy of You. As I surrender and obey, please manifest Yourself to me. Make Your presence more real, Your Word more alive, and Your love more deeply felt. I pray this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

Scripture teaches that the Lord moved toward us first, not because we were good, but because He is gracious. He loved us while we were still sinners, and that love is what opened the door for salvation and our adoption. We do not obey in order to become God’s children. We obey because, by faith in Christ, we already belong to Him.

At the same time, Jesus says that when we love our Father with all our heart, it changes how we feel about the Father’s love. There is a difference between being part of the family and enjoying the closeness of family fellowship. A child does not stop being a child when he disobeys, but disobedience can create distance in the family relationship. Trust can be strained, joy can be diminished, and fellowship can feel hindered, not because the Father has stopped loving, but because the child is no longer walking in obedience.

This is why Scripture speaks of God’s discipline. Like a wise and loving Father, He corrects those who belong to Him. His discipline is not rejection of the child, but restoration. He trains His children so they will turn back, grow in holiness, and return to the joy of fellowship. The goal is not punishment for punishment’s sake, but a renewed closeness and a clearer walk with Him.

When you cling to Christ and walk in His Word, you are not earning God’s love. You are stepping into the joy of what has been true all along. It is like moving out from under self-made clouds of stubbornness and rebellion and into the warmth and brightness of His love. The sunshine was never absent, but obedience is like clearing the cloudiness of the heart and allowing the sun to shine more clearly.

Prayer
Father, thank You for loving me first and adopting me as Your child through Jesus. Forgive me for the ways my disobedience has clouded my fellowship with You. I do not want distance; I want closeness. Restore in me a true, obedient heart that enjoys Your presence, correction, and care. Let me live in the warmth of Your fatherly love each day. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

In His teaching, love is not simply an emotion that rises and falls with our moods or circumstances. Love is faithful loyalty. It is a settled devotion of the heart that shows itself through obedience. Jesus does not call for warm feelings or kind thoughts about Him. He calls for a life that honors Him. That is why He says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

This does not mean we earn His love by performance or works. His love is not a reward for good behavior. When a person truly loves Christ, that love will show itself in a desire to please Him and follow Him. Obedience is the evidence that love is real.

A true disciple may stumble, but will not let disobedience become their way of life. There will be repentance, a return to the Lord, and a renewed desire to walk in His ways. Over time, the overall direction of that person’s life leans toward pleasing Christ. The closer we walk with Him, the more His commands become something we treasure, not something that we tolerate.

Love that is genuine becomes visible in our everyday choices. It shows up in how we speak to others, how quickly we forgive, how we handle our money, how faithfully we serve, and how honestly we repent when we fail. These daily patterns reveal what we truly value and who we truly follow.

So the question becomes personal. Do your actions match your confession, or do they contradict what you say you believe?
