I Know Your Dad

John 1:12-14
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Thoughts:
Almost a month ago, Logan, a young man in our church, shared a message about prayer with us. I’ve not been able to shake an illustration he gave.

In the message, he shared an illustration about how throughout his life, he has always been known as Logan. “That’s Logan” or “there’s Logan.” But as time and life have progressed, he and his wife Allyson have been blessed with a beautiful family of four children.

When Logan began to share this, he became overwhelmed with such appreciation and recognition. He said, “I’m no longer referred to as Logan. Now people know me by Maeliegh’s dad, or Ella Blake’s dad.”

Logan said, “How awesome would it be if people recognized us by our relationship to the Father! What if they said, ‘That is God’s son or daughter.’

I remember growing up close to the same town my dad grew up in. Constantly, I was told the words, "I know your dad." People still look at me today when they hear my name and begin to go through the Rolodex in their minds (you can see it spinning). Then they say the words, "Is your daddy...? Well, I know your dad!" Which often meant that they somehow knew me because they knew my dad. What a witness it would be if when people saw us, they looked at you and said, "Jesus is your Lord, I can tell."

Prayer:
Ask the Lord today to help you represent Him well. As you pray, realize that you are allowed this privilege because of your relationship as a child. Remember to take the time in prayer to thank Him for bringing you into the family.
