Jesus Sees More Than Your Condition
John 9:1
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
Thought:
Jesus did not just see a blind man. He saw a person. Everyone else saw his problem. They saw his need and his weakness. They knew him only as the blind beggar. His condition had become his identity.
We often do the same thing. We look at people and see what is wrong with them. We see their addiction, their sickness, their failure, their past. We describe them by their problem. In our own minds we often describe ourselves the same way. We think we are only what has happened to us or what we struggle with.
Jesus is different. When Jesus looks at you, He sees more than your condition. He sees the person God created you to be. He sees your hurt, but He also sees what His grace can do in your life. He is moved with compassion when He sees your pain. But He is not trapped by it and He is not confused by it. He comes near to you with help.
The blind man could not change his condition. In the same way, we are born into a fallen world and into sin. On our own we cannot change our spiritual condition either. We cannot give ourselves spiritual sight. But Jesus can. The one who saw the blind man in his darkness sees you in yours. He comes not just to notice you, but to rescue you.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You see me. Thank You that You see more than my problems and my sins. You see my heart and You care about my pain. I confess that I cannot change my own condition. I need Your mercy. Please look on me with the same compassion that Jesus had for the blind man. Help me to believe that I am more than my failures and my weakness because of Your grace. In Jesus name, Amen.
