Casting Away Hindrances
Hebrews 12:1-2
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Bartimaeus’ act of discarding his garment symbolizes the necessity of shedding anything that impedes our path towards Jesus. This echoes the exhortation in Hebrews, urging us to “lay aside every burden and the sin that so easily ensnares us.”
Are there any ‘garments’ you’re holding onto that might be slowing you down on your journey? These could be past hurts, bad habits, or even good things that have become distractions. Take some time to identify these hindrances and symbolically ‘cast them away’ in prayer today. Let go and embrace the freedom that comes with letting go!
Prayer:
Father, reveal to me the things I need to cast aside. Give me the strength to let go of anything that keeps me from fully following You. In Jesus' name. Amen
