Mercy Reached Nineveh
Jonah 3:5
So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
Thought
Nineveh was violent, wicked, and far from God. Humanly speaking, they seemed like the last people who would repent. But when the Word of God came to them, they believed God. Their repentance did not erase their past, but it showed that they had humbled themselves before the Lord. Salvation is of the LORD, and He is able to reach the people we might think are unreachable.
This should reshape the way we see others. The bitter neighbor, the rebellious child, the addicted friend, the mocking coworker, and even the person who has hurt us are not beyond God’s power. We cannot change hearts, but God can. We are called to speak truth, show compassion, and believe that the Lord still saves sinners.
Prayer
Lord, give me faith to believe that no one is beyond Your mercy. Remove my doubts and my prejudice toward those I think are unlikely to repent. Use me to point others to the truth that salvation is of the LORD. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
