Humility in God's Presence

Luke 5:8-10
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

James 4:6-10
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Thoughts:
Peter's response to the miraculous catch of fish was one of humility and awe. He recognized his own sinfulness in the light of Christ's holiness. James reminds us that God gives grace to the humble. Today, spend time in honest self-reflection. Where do you need to humble yourself before God? How can acknowledging your limitations open you up to experiencing more of God's grace and power in your life?

Prayer:
Pray for a spirit of humility and for eyes to see God's work around you, leading you to worship.
