Bless the Name of the Lord
Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Thoughts:
It seems as if Paul is imposing a blessing upon God, but the truth is that humanity can’t add a blessing unto God. This scripture is not saying that we bless or are a blessing to God, but rather it says that we bless God or the name of our God, because He has blessed us! We cannot give unto God any blessings. He is already infinitely blessed forever. The truth is, our God is the blesser, and we are the blessed.
The word translated as “blessed” is the Greek word “eulogētos,” which means a spoken word of praise given by a living voice. A beautiful understanding of this word is that it has a corresponding English word. It is our word eulogy. A eulogy is spoken praise for the life of someone who influenced us. However, the difference is that we give a eulogy primarily when someone has passed away. Paul gives us one about the living Lord Jesus, who has blessed us.
Prayer:
As you seek to talk with the Lord today, speak verbally and loudly praises about and to Him. Design and deliver your prayer to Him through the spoken words of appreciation and praise to Him. You will find out just how blessed you are by blessing the name of our God.
