Speaking Life, Not Darkness

Ephesians 5:3-7
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

James 3:9-12
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Thoughts:
Our words reveal what fills our hearts. Paul's instruction to avoid filthy language, foolish talk, and coarse jesting isn't about legalism, it's about transformation. When the Spirit fills us, our conversation changes. We cannot claim to be children of light while our speech remains rooted in darkness. The warning is clear: those who persist in unclean living without repentance have no inheritance in God's kingdom. But notice, this isn't about occasional failure; it's about identity. A liar who confesses is forgiven, but one who becomes a liar has embraced darkness as their nature. Let your words today reflect the purity God is working in you. Speak life, encouragement, and truth.

Prayer:
Would someone know you're a Christian by listening to your conversations this week? Pray and ask God to help you reveal Him unto others.
