Singing Your Part
Ephesians 6:1-4
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Colossians 3:20-21
20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
Thoughts:
Family harmony requires each member to sing their assigned part. Children honor parents through obedience, learning the beauty of God's order from their earliest days. Parents, especially fathers, nurture without provoking, bringing children up in the instruction of the Lord. When everyone knows their role and sings it faithfully, the family creates a melody that draws others to Christ. The promise attached to honoring parents isn't just about longevity; it's about experiencing God's blessing through ordered relationships. Your family is your first ministry, your closest choir. Are you drowning out others with your own tune, or are you harmonizing according to God's design? The world is listening to your family's song.
Prayer:
Am I fulfilling my role in my family with joy? How can I better honor those God has placed in my life? Help me Lord to submit to my part and sing for the better example of Your Gospel.
