From Curiosity to Communion
John 14:7
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
Thought:
It’s common for many people to hold God at arm’s length. They love learning about Jesus, chatting about spiritual concepts, and soaking up Bible wisdom, but they still don’t fully connect with Him. They see Him as someone to figure out, not someone to trust. They crave information without giving up control. They want to study Christ, but not to follow Him. In this way, Jesus remains just out of reach, watched and studied, but never truly embraced.
But Jesus did not call anyone to a lifelong interview. He calls people into a living relationship. In the upper room, He makes it clear that the world cannot receive the Spirit of truth, not because the truth is unavailable, but because the heart refuses to bow. The world may hear words about Jesus, but without repentance and faith it will not receive Him. When a person will not yield to Christ, they will not welcome the Spirit.
But when someone receives Christ, everything changes. God gives the Holy Spirit to the believer, and the Spirit does more than provide "religious information." He brings spiritual life. He opens the heart to understand Jesus. He makes Him known in a personal and living way, not as a distant God, but as a present Lord who comforts, convicts, guides, and strengthens.
Are you simply curious about Jesus, or are you truly committed to Him? Are you still standing back as an observer, or have you stepped forward into faith, obedience, and love? Curiosity can admire Him. Commitment belongs to Him.
If you do not yet know Christ, then today is the day to move from curiosity to confession. Stop keeping Him at arms length and come to Him openly, admitting your sin and believing that He died and rose again to save you. And if you are already a believer, then today is a day to renew your surrender. Return to obedience. Return to fellowship. Walk again in the obedience of real communion with the Lord.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I do not want to stay on the outside, only asking questions while keeping You at a distance. I surrender my right to “evaluate” You and instead bow to You as Lord. Draw me out of curiosity and into real communion with You. Fill me with the Spirit of truth. Open my eyes to know You, love You, and walk with You in daily obedience. Let my life move from shadow to sunshine in Your presence. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
