The Foundation of Faith

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Thought
Faith is not an extra part of the Christian life. It is the very beginning and foundation of it. The Bible says that without faith we cannot please God at all. That means we cannot know Him, walk with Him, or be right with Him apart from faith.

Faith is more than believing that God exists. Even the devils believe that God exists. Biblical faith means we trust who God is and what He has said. We take Him at His word. We depend on His character. We rely on His promises through the Spirit. We rest in His Son.

The Bible teaches that we are not saved by our own goodness or our own efforts. Our works cannot make us righteous. Our church habits cannot make us righteous. Our feelings cannot make us righteous. Only God can make a sinner righteous and He does this through faith in Jesus Christ.

Faith is like an empty hand reaching out to receive a gift. The hand does not earn the gift. It simply receives it. In the same way, faith does not earn salvation. Faith receives salvation from Christ. God is pleased when we stop trusting in ourselves and start trusting fully in His Son.

Prayer
Father, in Jesus name, I confess that I cannot please You by my own works or goodness. I am a sinner who needs Your mercy. Thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins and rise again. Help me to put my full faith in Christ alone for my salvation. Teach me to trust Your word and Your character, and to rest in the righteousness that comes by faith, not by my own efforts. In Jesus name, Amen.
