Not Left As Orphans

John 14:18
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Thought:
Jesus knew His disciples were afraid. They had heard that He was going away, and their hearts were troubled. They were thinking, “What will happen to us if He is gone?” Into that fear, Jesus spoke a clear promise. He said He would not leave them “comfortless.” The word here means “orphans.”

An orphan in Bible times was someone without help, without protection, and without a home or guidance. Jesus said very plainly, “I will not treat you like that.” He was telling them, “You are not alone, and you never will be. I will come to you.

For us, this means the love of Jesus is not weak, forgetful, or temporary. Hard days do not mean Jesus has left us. Silent seasons do not mean He has stopped caring. Painful trials do not mean He has walked away. Our comfort is not that life will be easy, but that our Savior will not abandon us.

When fear tells you, “You are alone,” you must remember what Jesus said. His word is truer than your feelings. His promise is stronger than your fear.

Prayer:
Father, in Jesus name, thank You that I am not an orphan in this world. Thank You that You do not leave me helpless or forgotten. When I feel alone, remind me of the promise of Jesus, “I will not leave you comfortless.” Help me to trust His word more than my fears. Teach my heart to rest in Your faithful love. In Jesus name, Amen.
