The Son Who Saves and Sustains
Colossians 1:17
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Thought:
Jesus is not only the healer by the pool. He is the Lord of all creation. He existed before all things, and by Him all things consist, or are held together. Every breath you take, every beat of your heart, every rising of the sun, all are kept by His power.
This same Jesus came into the world to do the Father’s will perfectly. He lived a sinless life. He went to the cross. He carried our sins. He satisfied the demands of God’s holy law. He rose again in victory. He did not fail in a single step of the Father’s plan. Because of His perfect obedience, sinners can be completely forgiven and made right with God.
If you have never trusted Christ, this is the Good News. You cannot save yourself. You cannot clean your own heart. But Jesus has already provided everything for you. If you turn from your sin and put your faith in Him alone, He will save you fully and forever.
If you are already a believer, this same truth gives us daily hope. The One who saved you by His finished work is the same One holding your life together. Your struggles, your fears, your questions, and your future are all in His hands. If He can hold all creation together, He can hold you together too. He did not save us from our sins to leave us in our struggles.
So whether you are coming to Him for salvation or leaning on Him in your sorrow, remember this. The Son who does the Father’s will perfectly never fails His people. He saves. He sustains. He will not let you go.
Prayer for the believer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that by You all things consist and that You also hold my life together. Help me to trust that my days, my needs, and my future are in Your strong hands. When I feel like my life is falling apart, remind me that You are holding me. Help me rest in Your power and Your love. In Jesus name, Amen.
Prayer for an unbeliever:
Lord, I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. Thank You for sending Jesus to live a perfect life, die for my sins, and rise again. Today I turn from my sin and put my faith in Jesus Christ alone. Please forgive me, save me, and change my heart. Help me to follow You from this day forward. In Jesus name, Amen.
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
