Treasure, Heart, and True Discipleship
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Thought:
Jesus tells us that our heart always follows our treasure. Whatever we value most will claim our love and loyalty. One simple test of discipleship is what we do with our money and possessions. If we cling tightly to them, they reveal where our heart truly rests.
The Bible teaches how dangerous it is to love luxury more than life. People chose silver over supplies. People pick comfort over survival. Many people choose riches, status, and ease over obedience to Christ. They will not give, will not serve, and will not go where God calls if it costs them their comfort or their savings.
True disciples know that everything they own belongs to Jesus. They give regularly and generously because they trust Him. They see money as a tool for the kingdom, not as a master they must obey. When Jesus has our treasure, He has our heart. And when He has our heart, we are ready to live and die as His disciples.
Prayer:
Father, in Jesus name, I bring my treasure before You. Forgive me for the times I have loved money or possessions more than I have loved You. I confess that all I have comes from Your hand. Teach me to give with joy and faith. Use my resources for Your glory and for the good of others. Move my heart away from greed and fear and into trust and obedience. May my giving show that my heart belongs to Jesus, my Lord and my greatest treasure. Amen.
