Jesus Shows Us the Father
John 5:19
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
Thought:
Jesus is not a separate God doing His own thing. He is one with the Father. When He says He can do nothing of Himself, He is not saying He is weak. He is saying He is so perfectly united with the Father that He will never act apart from Him.
This means that when we look at Jesus, we are seeing exactly what God the Father is like. When Jesus speaks, God is speaking. When Jesus shows mercy, God is showing mercy. When Jesus bends down to help the broken, that is the heart of the Father in action.
Many people think of power and authority as opponents fighting for the top position. They think real greatness means acting independent and never answering to anyone. But Jesus shows us that the highest power is found in perfect unity with the Father. His obedience does not make Him less. It shows His perfect connection with God.
So, if you ever wonder what God feels about you, look at Jesus in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. His kindness, His compassion, His truth, and His holiness are the Father’s kindness, compassion, truth, and holiness. You do not have to guess what God is like. He has shown Himself in His Son.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for showing me the Father. Thank You that when I see Jesus, I see Your heart. Help me to trust that the Father and the Son are one, and that Your love and mercy reveal exactly how You feel about me. Teach me to rest in who You are and not in my own ideas about God. In Jesus name, Amen.
