The Power House Of The Church

Romans 12:6
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us whether prophecy let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith.

Thought:
In a cell the mitochondria are called the power house. They provide energy so the cell can do what it was created to do. Without that power the clearest instructions would be useless because there would be no strength to carry them out.

In the same way grace is the power house of the Christian life and of the church. Grace is not only God forgiving our sin. Grace is also God giving us strength and ability that we do not have in ourselves so that we can serve Him and others. Every spiritual gift we have is a work of God’s grace in us.

This means church life and ministry do not depend on human talent human plans or human effort. They depend on God’s power working through weak people. When we forget this we start trusting in the pump and the handle instead of the fuel that comes from both. We trust in our methods and our personalities instead of in God Himself. A healthy church understands that nothing truly spiritual happens unless God’s grace is at work.

Grace glorifies God because when something good happens we know it is His doing not ours. Grace also comforts us because even when we feel weak or unqualified God is able to work through us. Our part is to yield ourselves to Him and to serve where He places us trusting that His grace is enough.

Prayer:
Father God, thank You for the gift of Your grace. Thank You that I do not have to serve You in my own strength. Please remind me that every gift, every ministry, and every good work is from You. Forgive me for trusting in my own power and not in Yours. Fill me with Your grace so that I may serve in the place You have given me, and so that Jesus will be honored. I ask this in Jesus name amen.
