We Belong To One Body
Romans 12:4-5
For as we have many members in one body and all members have not the same office so we being many are one body in Christ and every one members one of another.
Thought:
God did not save us to live alone. In Christ we are joined together like parts of one body. No member is meant to be isolated and no member is meant to live in competition with another. Just as every cell and organ in the human body has a unique place and purpose so every believer has a God given role in the church.
Isolation is dangerous! When a believer pulls away in spirit or in fellowship it is like a cell that stops working with the body. Bitterness, jealousy, and hurt can tempt us to withdraw from others. Yet the Bible tells us we are members one of another. This means my walk with God is not only about me. My obedience strengthens the body and my disobedience weakens it.
Jealousy is also dangerous! In a healthy body one cell does not fight another cell for its place. In the same way a healthy church does not resent the different gifts and callings God has given to others. Instead we rejoice that God is wise enough to give to each person exactly the role that is best for His glory and for the good of the whole church.
Prayer:
Father God, thank You that in Christ I am not alone. Thank You that I belong to a body and that You have given me a place in it. Please forgive me for any isolated or jealous spirit in my heart. Remove bitterness and comparison from me. Help me to love my brothers and sisters and to celebrate the gifts You have placed in them. Show me how my life can strengthen the body and not harm it. I pray this in Jesus name amen.
