Channels, Not Reservoirs
1 Corinthians 4:7
For who maketh thee to differ from another and what hast thou that thou didst not receive.
Thought:
Everything that makes you different from another believer is something you have received from God. Your salvation, your spiritual gifts, your story, and your opportunities are all products of His grace. This truth removes pride, because there is nothing for us to boast in. It also removes insecurity, because God has given each of His children exactly what they need to do His will. We are not called to be reservoirs that store grace for our own comfort. We are called to be channels through which grace flows to others.
When grace stops with us, the Christian life becomes self focused, dry, and joyless. When grace flows through us, service becomes an act of worship. We are simply passing along what we have freely received. Think of how Jesus knelt to wash the feet of His disciples. The Lord of glory took the place of a servant. Then He said that we should do as He has done to us. That means we look at our homes, our money, our talents, and our time as tools for blessing, not trophies for display. Ask the Lord today to show you where you have been a reservoir and to transform you into a channel through which His manifold grace can bless many people until He returns.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I confess that everything I have is a gift from You. Guard my heart from pride and from selfishness. Do not let Your grace stop with me. Make me a willing channel through which Your love, mercy, and kindness can flow to others. Use my life in any way that brings You glory until the day You return. In the name of Jesus, amen.
